She always has been. Even as a child she was smaller than other and that never changed. She has curly blonde hair that she cut short after she lost her sight (which will be explained later). She has brown eyes that are now rather glazed almost looking like they have a film over them. She also has little scars around her eyes that look like wrinkles if you don't pay attention to them carefully. Despite the fact that she is blind, she tends to stand and sit very straight making her seem a little taller than she actually is. She tries to remain very calm and has always been honest. She hates the thought of lying or trying to deceive herself (besides the fact that if she did, it would ruin her ability to use the wand she has). She is very logical and intelligent but has difficulty understanding relationships between people. It has been something she had struggled with since she was a little girl, but it isn't something she has ever given up on either. She wants to understand how to be a real human being. It is something that she strives towards. She has actually been making progress towards that lately. After Catherine found out she was pregnant, she left Howard and went deep into the wizarding world until she gave birth to a baby girl. She decided to try and raise her daughter on her own. Unfortunately, Howard found out that Catherine had had a child and came to London to find them. When he did, he told Catherine he was staying. The couple argued constantly, tending towards abuse against each other though never towards their daughter. The little girl was four before anyone actually noticed what was going on. A co-worker of Catherine's at the ministry discovered the situation and reasoned with the woman until Catherine and Howard decided to hand over custody of their little girl to the co-worker, Janice Dubh and her husband Carson. The couple had just recently given birth to twins James and Emmeline but eagerly accepted the challenge of raising the three year old as well. Zakiah was given a normal education and went to Hogwarts at eleven where she was sorted into Ravenclaw. She showed great promise and did exceedingly well, getting some of the highest marks of her year. She continued through school studying Arithmancy and Ancient Runes as her elective courses. When she graduated, she went to work for the ministry and chose the department of mysteries as her focus. She was actually a researcher for three years until one of the men she worked with went over her head on one of their projects. She was still doing research when he decided to act before she could advice him. The experiment exploded and no one is quite sure what happened after all. All that is known is that the magic combined to blind Zakiah and make the man himself lose his mind. He now spends his days in Saint Mungo's talking about monkeys and kittens. His brother, the other man who was supposed to be working on the project, was given the duty of caring for Zakiah. He was actually supposed to be in the lab the day that everything went wrong but had been running late. Zakiah has grown to rely on him even more than she does her own adopted family who she tries to love in her own way. She simply doesn't know how because of the abuse and lack of love she saw in her childhood.
